For a recent edition of my other newsletter, The Sum Up, I started to write about Mr. Beast. If you don’t know him, welcome to Earth.
I wasn’t aware alien life had landed, but welcome. Sorry, that was a bit harsh. But only because I genuinely don’t believe you don’t know who Mr. Beast is.
If you know who I am, you gotta know who Mr. Beast is.
But anyway, I was writing about how he is hyper-obsessed. But like, super hyper-obsessed. I feel like I hear that word a lot nowadays, so much so that I lose the meaning of it. But when you look at someone like Mr. Beast, you can see what the word actually means.
And it hit me.
I Have To Be That Crazy
For my new newsletter. I mean, I want it to be the biggest in the world. That is the end goal. Quite a large goal to set. The biggest goal, actually.
So it hit me as I sat and consumed a ton of Mr. Beast, that is the level I have to compete with. There may be someone out there who wants to make the world’s greatest newsletter at a Mr. Beast level, which means I have to work even harder than that and want it even more.
As I type this, I cannot help but think how cheesy this sounds. Like some fortune cookie-type advice.
But I think the moment you realize that a fortune cookie could actually change your life if only you would take the advice, then it doesn’t become so silly.
I mean, Mr. Beast was on a pretty level playing field. You could actually argue the odds were worse for him. He wasn’t born into a wealthy family so he could do insanely high-quality videos from the beginning. No one that he knew had a background in film or anything. The only thing he had was drive. And I think now, people really forget that is how you get what you want.
It seems like everyone wants that answer on how to get what they want.
I think it’s only fair you don’t have Mr. Beast’s level of success if you haven’t put in Mr. Beast-level effort. But a lot of people out there have this insane imbalance, where they want the desire, but the work doesn’t reflect it. Everyone wants to be the biggest XYZ, or have a ton of money, or whatever it is. Everyone.
But what if you were the person who wanted it more than anyone else? What then? Can people compete with you? It’s only a matter of time before you become the greatest. This means the secret to getting what you want, is to……get this…….
Want it. Like more than anything. So all you do is work for it until it happens.
No One Can Become Me
In a Colin and Samir interview, Mr. Beast cockily said no one could be him if they tried. I think he deserves to get a bit cocky though, because it’s a lot more than talk.
He said no one works harder than him on it. No one. He said he puts all his waking hours into it. Not much time off. When he is off, he is thinking about YouTube. How are you going to compete with a guy who devotes his entire life to something?
He even said that if somewhere were to get to his level, he would just start sleeping less and working more. I mean, can you see what level of crazy we are at here?
This is a man, who you could set brick walls in front of, and he would just ram through ‘em all to get to where he wants to go.
People like this cannot be stopped. There is nothing you can do about it.
And for most people, it hurts them. It hurts them to see a guy like this do so well, because they may lack that pure obsession that he has.
My Realization
I have a long way to go. I want it. I may even want it bad. Maybe even a lot. Of course, I want to make the biggest newsletter in the world. But will I do it till I die? Will there literally only be the 2 options of:
a) Make the biggest newsletter in the world
b) Die
Because for Mr. Beast, that is kinda what it was. He would keep trying, and the only thing that would stop him from trying would be death. It’s insanity. How many people do you know who have that kind of grit, that only death could stop them on the tracks to their goal?
Probably not many. So I just want this edition to be a little reflector for you. For you to be able to look at where you’re at, and no longer wonder,
“Why don’t I have it?”
Well clearly, it may not matter to you as much as you thought. Because if you wanted it, you would have a lifetime left to chase it. And that would be okay.
Because every moment you don’t have it is more time to devote to the chase.
So I am choosing to take the Mr. Beast insanity approach to this newsletter. That is how badly I want it to work out. You hear it over and over again. That you have to be obsessed. But I think it’s time we stopped rolling our eyes at it, and start looking to see if we have ever in our life even slightly embodied the trait of obsession.
P.S. If you want to sub to the best newsletter ever (I say this as an affirmation, not to be a cocky mfer), you can do so here:
This is insane! Love it. I believe in your potential. You got this mate!! Lets gooooooo
